CFAMFT Mission Statement

Central Florida Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (CFAMFT) exists to advance the profession and the practice of relationship and family therapy by providing practitioners with professional development opportunities, legislative advocacy, promoting systemic perspectives and practices that support the relational success of families and couples.

 Welcome to CFAMFT!

CFAMFT Board Members

The Central Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CFAMFT) is a professional organization representing marriage and family therapists and their colleagues in the Central Florida area. CFAMFT provides education, supervision, and advocacy for the profession of marriage and family therapy. CFAMFT operates as an autonomous not-for-profit entity. The Association leads the way to increasing understanding, research, and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and ensures that public needs are met by well-trained practitioners. Clinical members of CFAMFT have completed specific post-graduate training in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as extensive supervised clinical practice with couples and families.

CFAMFT members are employed in a variety of settings including social service agencies, private clinics, hospitals, universities, and independent practices. Members of CFAMFT are also licensed by the Florida Department of Health (under Chapter 491) as Marriage and Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers, or Psychologists. Members of all related professions are required to participate in ongoing continuing education to maintain their licensure in order to practice therapy in the State of Florida.

Marriage and Family Therapists and their colleagues do not condone or engage in discrimination or refuse professional services to anyone on the basis of age, race, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, culture, class, spiritual tradition, marital status or ability. Marriage and Family Therapists and their colleagues value diversity and seek social justice for all with special awareness to those most frequently disenfranchised, such as oppressed groups.

CFAMFT stands against racism

CFAMFT is an organization that promotes inclusion, diversity, and the value of human life. We do not tolerate or participate in any kind of discrimination, injustice, or violence. As an organization that focuses on mental health and wellness, we recognize the profound toll that discrimination, racism, and violence has had, and continues to have, in our community and our world. We are systemic thinkers. We understand that we must examine racism in ourselves and other individuals, and also in the destructive impact institutionalized racism has had on our communities of color.

We stand with those who work to end racial injustice. We must have open and honest dialogue about how to end suffering and enact change as an organization and in the world at large. We must do more.

We commit to improving community outreach (to under-served populations), making diversity a priority in our board recruitment, and increasing awareness to mitigate implicit bias in board meetings and monthly CEU presentations. We commit to speaking up and out.

CFAMFT encourages us to have difficult conversations, to sit with our own uncomfortable feelings, and to use our discomfort to move into action toward increased equality and compassion for all.

Distinguished Service Award

Each year in December at the Holiday Breakfast, CFAMFT recognizes a leader in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy by awarding them with the Distinguished Service Award.
